Hegglandsvegen 4, 5680 Tysnes — a beautiful setting in Våge guest harbour.

A destination on Tysnes

Like a white pearl right at the water's edge in Våge, you'll find Mandelhuset. The three old white houses with green trim, standing on the former steamship quay, were once a general store and a landing for the fjord boats. Today the buildings have become a snug, welcoming restaurant where the kitchen uses Norwegian ingredients to conjure up good food for you and yours.

Mandelhuset came to life in 1995, after the old general store closed in 1994 — it had been trading since 1923. After the pandemic we welcomed 145 new shareholders, and so we became a true people's restaurant. Our task is to be a good restaurant and meeting place on Tysnes, and to do our bit to make the island a fine place to live and to visit.

À la carte

Our menu is firmly rooted in good Norwegian ingredients. You'll find a few classics, but we like to play with new ideas and seasonal flavours, changing the menu four times a year.

Our venues

Butikken (The Shop) — the original 1923 building, used today as restaurant and bar, and available for private functions.

Festsalen (The Banqueting Hall) — our 2017 extension, decorated with local art; seats 70 and can be closed off entirely.

Sjøhuset (The Boathouse) — a chambre séparée converted in 2009; seats 20, a building all of its own.

Naustet (The Old Boathouse) — dating from around 1860, moved to Våge in 1920 and moved eight metres by us in 2020; a cosy parlour, perfect for gatherings.

We look forward to welcoming you to Mandelhuset.
